Venus, Serena Williams Join Billie Jean King Equal Pay Push

A day before playing in the final in the year 2005 at the All England Club, the former world no. 1, Venus Williams addressed a meeting of the Grand Slam Board, there she urged the French Open and Wimbledon to offer equal pay to male and female players.

“I said: ‘When we are on the court holding tennis racket in hand, all of our hearts beat in the same manner. If you will close your eyes, you won’t be able to really judge who is next to you, who’s a woman and who’s a man.’ She then asked the people sitting there, think about their, sisters and daughters. How would they like them to be treated?” Williams recalled. “We don’t realize, sometimes, we lose track of, our own bias and we confront our own prejudice. We have to confront ourselves.”

Lakeisha accuses Serena Williams

Lakeisha who is the second wife of Serena Williams’ dad has accused Serena of forcing her to leave the house she is living in currently with the only kid that she has.

That house which Lakeisha is living in is situated in Palm Beach area of Florida and is registered in the name of Serena and her dad.

As per Lakeisha, the advocates of Serena have asked her to get herself and her kid out of that house at the earliest and have also warned her that if she doesn’t follow their orders and doesn’t vacate the house, they will put another lock on the gate of the house.

Lakeisha has given this statement to the court which is looking into the divorce case of her and her husband who happens to be Serena’s dad.

It’s been a rough 2016 for the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) which was once promising as it has had to reduce its originally intended format to three cities from five.

That was just the beginning of its woes as reports coming in have alleged the pull out of two of the biggest names in the tennis world from the tournament. As such, the competition this year will not be featuring the duo of Serena Williams and Roger Federer.

The founder and Managing Director of the IPTL in a recently released statement, had said,

“We have had challenges this year, and we were hoping to get past them.

“With the current economic climate in India and the uncertainty of spending money, I reached out to both Roger and Serena to explain the situation.
